The first verse from the hymn My God and Father! While I Stray by Charlotte Elliott is worth thoughtful consideration and prayer:
My God and Father! while I stray
Far from my home in life’s rough way,
Oh! teach me from my heart to say,
“Thy will be done!”

The wondrous cross

As I was thinking about this coming week I was reminded of the hymn When I Survey the Wondrous Cross by Isaac Watts:
1. When I survey the wondrous cross
on which the Prince of Glory died;
my richest gain I count but loss,
and pour contempt on all my pride.
2. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
save in the death [...]

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who was, and is, and evermore shall be.
Holy, holy, holy! [...]

“The King of love my Shepherd is,
Whose goodness faileth never,
I nothing lack if I am His
And He is mine forever.
Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
But yet in love He sought me,
And on His shoulder gently laid,
And home, rejoicing, brought me.”
(Words from The King of Love My Shepherd Is by Henry W. Baker)

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name is one of those hymns where I just can feel the majesty. It was written by Edward Perronet in 1779-1780. A great hymn to celebrate the glory and power of our Lord who was raised from the dead.
Take My Life

Take My Life and Let it Be, written by Frances R. Havergal, is a great hymn of consecration to the Lord. It’s lyrics make a great daily prayer. Consider, for example, these words from the hymn: “Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine. [...]
Have Thine own way

Although my wife and I have been involved in churches that primarily use contemporary worship music, we love hymns. One in particular that she and I sang together this evening really spoke to my heart. It is Have Thine Own Way, Lord by Adelaide Pollard. The words speak to me of what [...]
