“Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Ps. 73:25-26 ESV)
What do we desire in this life? There are so many things that grab at our attention. But as the psalm here points out, our desire should be for the Lord Himself. Even regarding heaven, our desire shouldn’t be just for eternal life, but to be in the very presence of God, to be with Him. He is our “portion”. He is what we really need. May our lives reflect what Peter writes in 1 Peter 4:2: “That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.” (KJV)
Until we go to be with the Lord, let’s live for His will and to His glory! Amen
